Since 2004, the Museum of Modernism Mönchsberg has been located directly on the cliff of the Mönchsberg above the roofs of the old town. The concept of the Munich-based team of architects Friedrich Hoff Zwink was selected from 145 submissions to the international architectural competition held in 1998. Through the glazed staircases, the view of the imposing 19th century water tower is revealed. The Mönchsberg Museum of Modern Art was built within 3 years. On an exhibition area of 2,300 m² spread over 4 levels, visitors can view not only the museum's own extensive collection, but also major temporary exhibitions of international contemporary art. The architecturally interesting restaurant M32 spoils its guests.
