Since 1996 you can visit the museum in the rooms of the former flat of the Mozart family, which documents the life and work of Mozart and tells about the history of the house and the life of the Mozart family. Marvel not only at some of Mozart's original instruments, but also at the famous family portrait. The building was largely destroyed in the 2nd World War and later rebuilt true to the original. Plan about one and a half hours for a visit to the Mozart residence.
In 1773 the Mozart family moved from the narrow Getreidegasse to Hannibalplatz (today: Makartplatz). In the spacious eight-room flat, social gatherings with the befriended families took place, and in the garden they enjoyed various games such as skittles. The music hall was a meeting place for family members and court musicians, including Johann Michael Haydn (1737-1806). In this house the young Mozart lived as a member of the family until 1780. During this time he created many serenades, symphonies, divertimenti and 5 concertos for violin and piano. Mozart's sister Nannerl also lived here until 1784, as did his father Leopold Mozart until his death (28 May 1787). The glamorous heart of the house, the Tanzmeistersaal, was already a central place of social life in Salzburg during Mozart's lifetime.
