Fortress Hohensalzburg...

The Hohensalzburg Fortress is the landmark of the city of Salzburg. It is one of the largest preserved medieval castle complexes in Europe from the 11th century and an unmistakable part of Salzburg's world-famous silhouette.

At the castle you can learn about the everyday life of the people in the time of the archbishops.  During the tour you can visit the panoramic tower, the fortress concerts, the feudal princes' rooms, the torture chamber, the illuminated lower chapel or the fortress museum.

The fastest way to get to Hohensalzburg Fortress is to take the fortress railway. This funicular railway is the oldest in Austria and has been carrying visitors since 1892, although nowadays it uses modern technology.
